Radios To Use With Your App
If you're looking for a radio to use with the app, there are many different types to choose from.
First, if you need a shortwave radio, for monitoring
HF Weather Fax,
NAVTEX,
PSK31,
or morse code
you can consider either a portable or desktop radio.
Portable radios cost much less, and tend to have a built in antenna, so no external antenna is required.
They work well if you have a strong signal from the station, and do not have a lot of nearby sources of
radio interference.
Some portables to consider include:
Sangean ATS-909X AM/FM/LW/SW World Band Receiver
Kaito KA1103 Worldband Radio
Sony ICF-SW7600GR AM/FM Shortwave World Band Receiver with Single Side Band Reception, plus External Plug-in Antenna
Tecsun PL-600 AM/FM/LW SSB Shortwave Radio, Black
ETON Satellite 750 AM/FM Band Radio (Black)
If you need to improve your reception, you can always consider getting an active antenna:
Kaito Amplified Active Loop AM & Shortwave Antenna, KA33
For
ACARS and
PACKET
you need a VHF radio, often called a "scanner". Some to consider include:
Uniden BC355C 800MHz 300-Channel Base Mobile Scanner (Black)
Uniden 300-Channel Clock Radio Scanner
Uniden Bearcat BCT8 BearTracker Warning System with 800 MHz TrunkTracker III
Uniden Digital Mobile Scanner with 25,000 Channels and GPS Support (BCD996XT)
